Getting use to my "farm dog" named Amore tends to harden me a bit. She is athletic, strong, and trouble! Her latest antic was jumping onto a tarp over the pool secured by large plant containers of miracle grow dirt. Maybe, she thought they needed water? There she was, going down with the tarp and the planters slowly sinking into the cold water. Over two hours of clean up. Yes, I saved her. I told her though that she owed me as I pulled her out.
So, seeing a bundle of a make believe fur stuffed doggie, makes me shake my head. Naaa, that's not "real!"

New gallery for you to view! I hope you like it! Welcome to Woofstock! Click on the below photograph
to be taken to the entire day's gallery of beautiful dogs! I lied. I have two favorite canine breeds. Dobermans, and the Greater Swiss Mountain dog. Actually, I am still not telling the truth. I love ALL dogs. This must be why I have had several rescues, full blooded labs, cairn terrier's, and I JUST CAN'T WAIT for the new additions.
But, I do have an attachment to this breed, the Greater Swiss. I enjoyed meeting his owner! We have something very rare in common! I liked her instantly, and made smiles together. She has a wonderful space between her front teeth, and you know, I do too. :) Loved her canine, he is in a word, MAJESTIC! I had a wonderful time at the Woofstock here in Aiken today supporting the Aiken County Animal Shelter.
The dogs were all very well behaved, and acted like stars. They knew they were at a special outing! They all strutted their stuff, and posed for photographs. They seemed to know when the lens was capturing their inner soul. I have a few favorites to show you, stay tuned. Let's start with this guy. A gorgeous Doberman from Oklahoma! Owned by a lovely woman who also has horses. I fell in love with him when I first set my eyes on him! I have never owned a pure bred dobie, but have had a mix. His name was Sam. Sam was the best dog in the world. The smartest for sure. He would protect me, and even growl at my husband when he kissed me. I miss my Sammy. The story is - A German Shepherd showed up on my doorstep in Arlington TX. My husband, George said, "no Laurie," take him to the pound! I did. The next morning, my husband said, "go and get Wolfie!" I said, "who's Wolfie?" He smiled and said, "the german shepherd." I drove so fast to the shelter! Of all things, Wolfie was owned by one of the workers there! So, it was a great reunion. But, there I was in the shelter with so many sad pleading dogs. I figured, since George said it was OK to have another dog, it was OK to bring another home! Well, there he was. A black mix of a puppy. Big brown eyes and I was smitten. I brought him home. George was in our driveway and asked if I was able to get "Wolfie." I got out of the car. I said, "no." He was reunited with his owner. I told him I was pretty sad. "BUT!" I said, I have a new guy!" He said, "what?" I then carried "Sammy" out of the car. My husband took one look at him, and he said, "he has tenure!" My husband was a professor, and tenure means you are there forever! Well, Sam took care of the both of us forever. Even when George passed away, Sam would not leave his lazy boy chair for three days. I miss my Sammy. So, seeing this beautiful Doberman, brought back some wonderful memories. I just love the dedication, devotion, and the love they have for their family and owner. UNCHAINED, is the name of this photo. I hope you like it! Is a big, big day! Here in Aiken, it is a wonderful day! A huge support for our pets! It is the ...
WOOFSTOCK! Here is a link to the great event. http://www.fotasaiken.org/Woofstock.html Come out and support the animals needing a home! Have you seen the movie and/or play Annie? OK, well, you DO remember Sandy. Who can forget, Sandy? "Annie, a young orphan living in the Hudson Street Orphanage in New York City during the Great Depression, thinks that her parents simply left her there ("Maybe"). Annie attempts to flee to find her parents, but the orphanage's cruel and alcoholic supervisor Miss Agatha Hannigan catches her and orders the orphans to clean up the orphanage ("It's a Hard Knock Life"). Later, while trying to flee in a laundry truck run by Mr. Bundles, Annie befriends a dog and later names him Sandy after convincing the dogcatcher that he is hers. Escorted back to the orphanage by a policeman along with Sandy, Annie is to be penalized and Sandy is to be sent to the sausage factory." Here is a beautiful photo of a pampered pet from the last WOOFSTOCK! You can see the photo album in my gallery. Just have to say, a pampered pet of poofing! Some dogs like POOFING, and some like a roll in the hay. My dogs, they like to roll in hay, sand, and wet dirt. Forgot to mention, manure... They will not be at this GREAT function, but I WILL!!! I think maybe, next year, they should have a competition of the smelliest dog. My "AMORE" would win! Hope to see you there! My blood pressure is up. My foot is hurting as though there is a sharp bone spur in its heel (there is). My horses, sense my discomfort, and challenge my authority. OH, authority you ask? In the horse world there is always an alpha horse that is in charge. This is a good thing, but a pretty tough job for this horse. Owning a horse you learn about this. Mainly, that you have to be the ALPHA horse ABOVE the ALPHA horse! You also have to be the one in charge (the one that shows the way of security) to all of the horses. This is not about hurt, but braveness. Lecturing aren't I? What I am trying to say is, We are human, we have flaws. They are horses. They do not. We have flaws because we take our discomfort for our mind problems, our people problems, our physical problems out on others. It is HARD not to react when you are in pain. We don't mean to. It is always a COMFORT to tell someone of our pain. Get some sympathy and we feel better. We recognize abuse in people, pets, etc., when it is brought to our attention, but rarely do we see the real world. I just want to bring a bit a realization to us having a bad day. We know, we are having a BAD day. Why not STOP when we are having a friggin' bad day and feeling like yelling, or saying things we never would say, except - - we are having a bad day. Unfortunately, if we do not take the energy out on our human's, if we own pets, sometimes, I have seen they get the brunt of it! I heard it tonight. I was having a bad day. Two days, in fact. Worrying about health of one of my horses, and walking like a cripple and trying to convince my horses that "yea," I can defend you from that mountain lion." One look at my hobbling, and they said, "nope, we are taking over!" I knew what was going on, so I am OK with this. But, tonight... My neighbor was bringing her horses to her feet. She had a voice that carried through the air. It was energy filled with pain and evil. I could hear her horses, and mainly her. But, the reaction of my horses was amazing. I wished, just at that moment, I was part of the herd. For they were all one. EVEN THOUGH my horses have not met these horses. They have from seeing them across the street. Any way, the woman, was screaming, and whipping her horses. My horses left their hay. Left their food to get closer to the screams, to support the unnown herd, but scared. I comforted each one and told them it would be OK. But, in reality, all of them knew what was happening. For, all of my horse have had abuse in the past. STOP the ABUSE. Get your LIFE calm. If you are not alright, please, please, do not take your upset mood onto other people, or animals. So, you name it. The following photograph is a group of unwanted abused horses. You can block out the sound, but the energy permeates through the air. The visual is even more powerful, and my keen sense of smell gives me a clear photograph of everything. You think you are powerful on my back? I am just tolerating you...
I am a race horse. So, who has the "sense?" Never let your "senses" get ahead of the real world, for I am always in control. It is our partnership (if we have one) that keeps you safe. Treat me as an equal, and you graduated from the school of horsemanship. :) a quote from me... Laurie :O |
