Love the way the sunlight highlights the red color of this horse! I also like that his attention is straight at me! Glad I had a long lens!

Where are you going in life? Where is he/she going? Love the colors. They are all the same. The tail matches the winter grass. Don't ask me! I just like this one, hope you do too!
Here is a young polo pony at a recent workshop I photographed. Believe it or not, horses are a bit skeptical when it comes to water! It could be a huge hole in the ground that will consume them! Here this polo pony is being very brave to check it out. It was a very cold rainy day, but somehow, the reflection appeared in the water. I think that is what I like the best about the photo!
I would like to introduce you to my horse named Guinness! He is a Missouri Fox Trotter and has been here on my farm now for five years. Isn't he a black beauty? I absolutely love this photograph! Why? Because of what you will see below. He has come a long way in the last five years. When I purchased him, it was to SAVE him. His back ground before I got him is uncertain. But, what is certain is that he was terribly abused. He was skin and bones, and probably near death. I didn't know any better but to rescue him. I am so glad I did. He is a huge sweetheart, even after the human cruelty he endured. I was able to trace him back to his first owner in Montana. The woman then told me about his unique characteristic. A crooked nose.. Apparently, Montana is full of rattle snakes. When he was just a colt he was bitten in the nose, and it did this! The bite also stunted the growth of his tongue which is very small. Isn't he cute? OK, now, get ready to see his BEFORE
photo on the day I got him. WARNING, it is terrible. A very sad short story, with a very happy ending. :) Yes, a very strange post for the blog. Plus, two posts in a day! I was PLAYING with the horses (I am now replacing "working" with "playing") late this afternoon. They were in an area of my 14 acres that they haven't been in awhile. Low and behold, a small patch of green grass. Right now, the pastures are brown, except for some wild onions growing here and there. I happened to look over to the horses in this new area (where I ride them) and noticed Gator (the horse in the photo) with his mouth to the ground, patiently taking precision cutting of the small green growth. Mind you, my horses are fed twice a day. As my knee surgeon wrote on my medical folder "she is well nourished." Thank you, Dr.... My horses are too. But, to have a wee bit of green, Gator had his head to the ground to precisely cut just a taste... SO AMAZING! PHOTO: I love the teeth snipping the green growth. I love the pink in his nostril. I love his color which is called BAY in the horse world. I also love his beard below his chin for the winter. I am not sure if you have ever felt a horse under his chin area, but it is the softest part in the world... I was doing a photo shoot yesterday at the Enhancing the Relationship course at Julie Robins Dragon Fly Farm here in Aiken, SC. This is one of the photographs I took. It is always amazing to me that I really never know what I have until I upload the photographs to the computer to really have a good look at them. This was one of those shots I randomly took just for an unusual view. I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked at this one! The owner and the horse were walking up a trail through the woods. I have heard of being in harmony with your horse, but being in harmony and not really KNOWING you are, is a VERY COOL thing! I have a feeling the owner will get a kick out of this photograph! What a team! |
